Institute for Interdisciplinary Research

Context:

In order to reduce water consumption, the University of Lisbon implemented a pilot project at the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research. The project consisted of installing flow reducers on water taps.

Description:

The installation of water flow reducers at the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research was the first step towards a more efficient use of our resources. This action was implemented in October of 2011.

Results:

The University of Lisbon estimated a saving of 50% of the monthly consumption of water, withan average consumption reduction of 7 litres / minute to 2 litres / minute. Another measure was implemented to reduce the volume of water used for flushing by reducing the total water volume of the system. We are currently working on the definition of indicators regarding the impact of the installation of water reducers.

Budget:

500€

Project start:

October 2011
